Exercises to understand when to use Past Simple- Past Continuous- Past Perfect :

A quick reminder

  • Past simple
    • Describes the main events of the story
    • Describes sequences of events
    • It is the 'standard' narrative tense. If in doubt, go for past simple.
  • Past continuous  =ABA / IA IN SPANISH
    • Describes unfinished actions, especially around a certain time
    • Describes longer actions interrupted by shorter ones
  • Past perfect  ( SUPER PAST)
    • Describes actions which took place before the main actions in the story
The exam will be easier.

5. https://www.englishlearner.com/intermediate/if-conditional-test-1-all-44-questions-fixed.shtml   ( very long exercise, 44 sentences. you don't have to write, just click)
